"Break Free" is a song by American singer Ariana Grande featuring Zedd that serves as the second single from her sophomore album, My Everything. It was released on July 2, 2014.

Background

Zedd was backstage at a Universal Records showcase when he heard Grande sing. At the time, he didn't know who it was, but he knew he wanted to work with whoever's voice it was.

Grande first confirmed she had recorded a song with Zedd in an interview with Billboard on April 28, 2014. She then talked about "Break Free" at the 2014 Wango Tango and stated that she wanted the song to be the next single.

Throughout the month of June, Grande hinted about her second single but did not reveal that it was a collaboration with Zedd until June 21, when she also revealed the title of the track. On June 22, 2014, she started a ten day online countdown to the release of the song where she officially confirmed that Zedd was a featured artist on the track.
