I think that "Illusion" is a song that I personally just really love. I've listened to the song so many times, producing it, but also afterwards. I get goosebumps every time.

–Zedd[1]

"Illusion" is the eleventh track from Zedd's second studio album, True Colors. It features vocals from American rock/indie pop band Echosmith.

Background[]

Echosmith confirmed the collaboration via Twitter on April 24, 2015.[2] On April 27, 2015, as part of his True Colors promotional campaign, Zedd premiered the song at the Stanley Hotel in Denver, Colorado.

A sneak preview of the song was posted on Zedd's Facebook on May 13, 2015.[3]

Sydney Sierota, Echosmith's lead singer, also performed the song with Zedd at a Firefly set in June 2015.[4][5]

Lyrics[]

Feels like the fairy tale is over, I really wanted these pages to begin
With "Once upon a time" like all those lullabies
I should've known better, I'll admit it, I thought when I let you in
You were my shining knight from all those stories

This love is your illusion, this love is your illusion
Take me to a place with real-life love
I need a break from this broken-down fantasy
Show me a place I can realize love, not your illusion

Feels like the fairy tale is over, I really wanted these pages to begin
With "Once upon a time" like all those lullabies
I should've known better, I'll admit it, I thought when I let you in
You were my shining knight from all those stories

This love is your illusion, this love is your illusion
Take me to a place with real-life love
I need a break from this broken-down fantasy
Show me a place I can realize love, not your illusion
