"Stache" is a promotional single from Zedd's debut studio album, Clarity. The extended mix was the first to be released as a single exclusively on Beatport on October 9, 2012.

Background[]

Zedd posted the cover art for the song onto his Instagram on September 26, 2012. A promotional image for the music video was also posted the day before Clarity's release.

Music video[]

The official music video premiered on October 2, 2012—the same day Clarity was released. It opens up with a quote from Leonardo da Vinci: "Threats alone are the weapons of the threatened man."

The video revolves around a foreign scientist who is hiding inside an abandoned building while trying to finish creating an antimatter bomb called the "Clandon Particle". During this time, a SWAT team is trying to stop him from finishing it. As SWAT officers surround the area, the scientist is forced to detonate the bomb, thus destroying the entire building. His fate afterwards is unknown, though he presumably dies.

Throughout the entire video, the events are being broadcast on live television; small clips show a man named Howard Cunningham—the head of national security—addressing the entire country about the events as they happen. Near the end of the video, several people are revealed to have been watching the live events on television, all seemingly proud.

Critical reception[]

Andy Kellman of AllMusic said that Zedd was "not quite in a field of his own yet" and that "'Stache' shamelessly displays the [Zedd]'s indebtedness to key Justice influence Daft Punk – it might as well be subtitled "Aerodynamic 2K12" – but he's getting there" but concluded with the statement that "Anyone who appreciates well-crafted dance-pop should probably keep up with him" and gave Clarity four out of five stars.[1] MTV Iggy wrote "['Stache's] climbing synth chords matches the tension and confusion while plentiful bass packs a powerful punch. We hold our breaths down to the very last minute – and ‘til the awesome end-of-song-breakdown."[2]

Alternate Versions[]

Lady Gaga Edit[]

Vocals by Lady Gaga were posted by her onto SoundCloud on October 6, 2012. She then asked fans to pair the vocal track with "Stache" and selected a winner.

Jocelyn Vena of MTV said the remix was a "crunchy, at times light-hearted track, which features Gaga over the EDM star's grinding, dirty production."

Lyrics[]

Princess die high.
Princess high die.
Where's my stache high?
Want to get high guy.

I need my.
Have you seen my?
I can't find my (find my).

Where's my stache?
Can you feed my love?
Cannabis.
Can you feed my love?
Where's my stache?
Where's my stache?
Cannabis.
High princess.

There's no exit,
We're in Jean-Paul Sartre.
Hope you don't think,
My obsession is awkward.

Princess high die.
Princess die high.
Princess high die.
Princess die high.

There’s no particular thing that I want (want, want).
There’s no particular drug that I love (love, love).
But when I can't find my stache I give up (up, up).
I need to deal with myself and get messed up (messed up, messed up).

Where’s my stache?
Can you feed my love?
Cannabis.
Can you feed my love?
Where’s my stache?
Where’s my stache?
Cannabis.
High Princess.
Where’s my stache?

DJ Zedd, Anton, turn it up.
Let’s party,
Let’s get messed up.
Let’s get messed up.
Let’s get messed up.
You’re so messed up.
Psychotic music head.
